Shauf had planned to be touring around The Neon Skyline, but, like many of us in the early days of the pandemic, he spent a lot of time alone instead. Under the guise of an intoxicating collection of jazz-inflected romantic ballads, his storytelling has become decidedly more oblique, hinting at ominous situations and dark motivations. With Norm, however, Shauf has slyly deconstructed and reshaped the style for which he’s been celebrated, elevating his songwriting with intricate layers and perspectives, challenging himself to find a new direction. Hailed as “a gifted storyteller” (NPR Music) for 2016’s The Party and 2020’s The Neon Skyline, Shauf writes albums that unfold like short fiction, full of colorful characters, fine details, and a rich emotional depth. If you’ve sent me an email, I’m probably going to let my inbox ill up and things will bounce back soon.Photo Credit: Angela Lewis Andy Shauf’s announces new album, Norm, via Arts & CraftsĪndy Shauf has announced his new album, Norm, out February 10, 2023, on Arts & Crafts and has shared its lead single/video, “ Wasted On You.” In conjunction, Shauf announces a 2023 Norm Tour, including some of his biggest shows to date. Lastly, if you want to support my work now, please give a follow and join us while we take over the world! I’ll still be on the look out for some great new music, so feel free to share what you’re enjoying with me □ Long story short, the website will still be active so you can retroactively discover THOUSANDS of artists from the last 9 years (fun fact: I wrote 3,740 posts) but there won’t be any new music or playlist updates moving forward. There’ll be another time for a 10th anniversary one day ✌️ On a personal note, I was torn between taking a hiatus or dragging myself to this imaginary finish line that is the blog’s 10th anniversary in February, but it felt like I was holding onto something I didn’t really want just for the sake of how it would sound and look to the outside world. The last time I did that was back in 2017, and when I returned in 2019, the blog’s growth was exponential, so perhaps that’ll be the case again in the future! The last thing I want to do is spread myself too thin so I will be putting the blog on an “indefinite hiatus”. Dusty Organ has essentially defined my entire 20’s and it’s unexpectedly become a huge part of my identity, especially in this industry. Some of you have seen posts about it over the last few months, but I’ve also been debating about what to do about the blog since the year started. I’m excited about heading into this new direction with someone else’s success as the goal - there’s already been a handful of small wins to share with everyone! I’ve officially made the switch from blogger to artist manager. Narrated by Shauf’s iconic and gentle vocals, the dreamy pop tune begins with a simple question: “What happens when they die?” before religion, death, and existence continue to unravel as the song progresses. ![]() “But the closer you pay attention to the record, the more you’re going to realize that it’s sinister.”Ī similar pattern occurs on the album’s lead single/opening track, “Wasted On You”. “The character of Norm is introduced in a really nice way,” Shauf shares. Inspired by David Lynch’s film Mulholland Drive, Andy Shauf recreated the story (with the help of Nicholas Olson) to revolve around Norm, after writing the album’s title track. Leading the news is his quirky and existential new single “Wasted On You”, and its accompanying visual. Toronto-based singer-songwriter Andy Shauf has announced his new album Norm, set for release on February 10th via Arts & Crafts, along with an extensive tour schedule in the spring.
